Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to the most common questions about PRP at Royal Wharf Clinic, including treatment details, expected results, and aftercare guidance to help you make an informed decision
Is PRP right for me?
PRP can be an excellent option for many people who are experiencing early-stage hair thinning, or wanting to further support the results of a hair transplant.
How many PRP sessions will I need?
We typically recommend a course of 3 – 6 sessions for the best results, however we are more than happy to figure out a plan that best suits your needs and goals.
When will I see results?
Patients often see results within 8 – 12 weeks, however this can vary depending on the severity of hair loss and other factors.
Does PRP hurt?
Most patients experience some discomfort during an PRP session, but it’s generally described as tolerable. A topical anaesthetic can be used if you prefer, and we’re able to apply it in suitable areas. Patients may also take paracetamol or co‑codamol for pain relief if needed.
Ibuprofen and other NSAIDs should be avoided, as they can interfere with the inflammatory response that supports the effectiveness of PRP treatment. Throughout your session, our team will guide you through each step and ensure you remain as comfortable as possible.
Are there any side effects?
Common side effects include mild redness, swelling, tenderness, or a feeling of tightness at the injection sites. However this typically subsides within a few days.
Is PRP safe?
Yes, PRP is considered to be very safe. As it uses your own blood, the risk of any allergic reaction occurring is extremely low.
Can PRP regrow hair in bald spots?
PRP can help to stimulate hair growth in areas where the hair follicles are still active but weakened, but it cannot stimulate hair growth in areas that are fully bald.
Can I combine PRP with a hair transplant?
Yes, in fact we recommend utilising PRP in conjunction with a hair transplant for the best results.
Do I need any downtime?
Typically, most patients do not need any downtime after a PRP session, being able to return to their normal activities immediately.
Is PRP suitable for women?
Yes, PRP is suitable for both men and women.
What does aftercare involve?
For the first 24 hours after a PRP session, we recommend not washing your hair and avoiding heavy exercise, saunas, steam rooms and hot showers (as heat can increase the swelling).
How much does PRP cost?
At Royal Wharf Clinic, 1 session of PRP costs £250, 3 sessions cost £600 and 6 sessions cost £990. Get in touch with a member of our team to figure out a plan that works best for you.
Who performs PRP at RWC?
All hair restoration procedures are done by a member of our team of highly trained clinicians and technicians.
