Natural, dense, and a perfectly shaped beard tailored to your face.
Natural, dense, and perfectly shaped beard results tailored to your face.
Compared to hair restoration procedures performed on the scalp, beard transplants pose their own unique set of challenges. Each graft has to be placed at an exact angle and direction to replicate the natural growth of facial hair. Due to the beard being highly visible, this procedure requires absolute precision, as even small inconsistencies can be easily noticed.
Also, the surgeon has to make sure that the transplanted beard is completely symmetrical on both sides of the patient’s face, as well as strategically planning the overall density of the beard to ensure a natural and well blended result.
A Beard Transplant is a minimally invasive hair restoration procedure that improves patchy or sparse facial hair using the patient’s own hair follicles, taken from designated areas on the scalp.
At Royal Wharf Clinic, our hair restoration experts use advanced FUE techniques to implant individual hair follicles at precise angles, resulting in flawless, natural looking facial hair with increased density. Our Beard Transplant procedures start at £3000+ vat.
Our team of Beard Transplant specialists are based in the UK, right in the heart of London. This means you know that you are receiving the best possible medical care, as well as a service that completely adheres to the strict guidelines set by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and General Medical Council (GMC).

A Beard Transplant provides permanent, low maintenance results with natural growth. Our surgeons are also able to customise the shape of your beard according to your specific preferences. While temporary options such as SMP (Scalp Micropigmentation) and Beard Fillers can provide temporary cosmetic results, they have several drawbacks in comparison to receiving a beard transplant:
Using the same method as Scalp Micropigmentation but for the facial area, this method uses tiny pigment dots to mimic the look of hair follicles, creating the illusion of denser hair. Typically, it takes 2–4 sessions to get the desired results.
While Beard Micropigmentation can sometimes improve the overall look of facial hair, it’s important to be aware that this is an illusion; ultimately the patient is provided with a tattoo, not actual hair.
Beard Micropigmentation can also look extremely unnatural if done poorly, is often painful due to multiple microdots needed (typically only numbing cream is provided during the procedure) and will never be able to improve your facial hair’s overall texture and density.
The results from Beard Micropigmentation also need to be touched up every 1–3 years, costing you more money in the long run.
Comparatively, a well executed FUE Hair Transplant provides you with real, tangible results, improves texture and density, and is performed under local anaesthetic, minimising pain and discomfort. The results are also permanent, as hair transplants are designed to last a lifetime.
Both beard micropigmentation and fillers only create the illusion of fullness, whereas a beard transplant gives real, permanent facial hair that grows naturally.

The hair growth timeline following a Beard Transplant can vary from person to person, but the progression is relatively linear. Below is a guideline of what the hair growth process can look like following your transplant procedure.
Months 12-18 | Final Results
Day 1-2 | Initial Healing
The treated area will be swollen, and you will notice redness and scabs beginning to form.
Week 1-2 | Stabilisation
The area will likely become itchy around week 1, however the scabs will typically begin to fall off in the second week.
Months 1-2 | Shedding
Transplanted facial hair may begin to shed, allowing for new growth. Peak shedding may occur in week 2 (sometimes even longer) – this is referred to as ‘shock loss’ and is completely normal.
Months 3-4 | Early Growth
Initial, early stages of new facial hair growth will begin to show.
Months 6-9 | Visible Change
Your facial hair will begin to fill out in thickness and density.
Months 12-18 | Final Results
By Month 12, your hair has reached its natural, permanent appearance and results are now stable. From this point forward, your transplanted hair will continue to grow at the same rate as the rest of the hair on your beard. Subtle refinements in density and texture may continue through Month 18 for the absolute final mature outcome.
Arrival & Check-In
You’ll be greeted and guided to a private surgical suite. Your consultant will review your treatment plan and answer any final questions. You will also need to sign consent forms.
Photography & Hairline Design
We’ll take before-photos for medical documentation. Your surgeon will mark and confirm the final hairline and/or transplant zones.
Anaesthetic
A local anaesthetic is administered to ensure you’re comfortable throughout the procedure. You’ll remain awake and alert, with breaks provided as needed.
Extraction
Using the FUE technique, individual hair grafts are carefully extracted from the donor area at the back or sides of your head.
Graft Preparation
With Beard Transplants, each graft is first sorted into singles, doubles, triplets and quadruplets. These graphs are then meticulously trimmed under a microscope.
Graft Trimming & Refinement
Excess tissue is removed to match the finer calibre of facial hair grafts, allowing the surgeon to implant with greater precision and follow natural beard growth angles
Incision Creation
Tiny incisions are created in the recipient area by the surgeon with precise control over angle, depth and density to match your natural hair growth pattern.
Lunch Break
We’ll offer you a curated meal from Halal, Vegan or Chicken options along with caffeine-free refreshments
Implantation
Your extracted grafts are implanted one by one into the recipient zones. This step takes time and precision, every graft matters.
Aftercare and Recovery Pack
Once the procedure is complete, your beard will be cleaned and we’ll provide your aftercare kit with medications, washing instructions, snacks and contact details.
Discharge and Support
After your treatment, you’ll have 24/7 access to our team should you have questions or concerns post-op.

If you are experiencing patchiness or a lack of fullness in your beard, or simply are satisfied with how your facial hair looks, a beard transplant is an excellent option.
Yes, as long as it is performed by a specialist with plenty of experience, a beard transplant will look completely natural and symmetrical. Each follicle is precisely placed to match the natural direction and angle of the patient’s existing facial hair, and the surgeon will consider your facial structure and beard growth pattern to create results that compliment your face.
The number of grafts needed for a beard transplant are decided on a case by case basis, and depend on your current facial hair, the size of the area that is being treated and the level of density desired.
Your surgeon will assess all of these factors during an initial consultation and create a plan that is tailored to you (while taking your preferences into account).
Yes, beard transplants are designed to last a lifetime. Once the transplanted follicles have settled, they will begin to grow on their own like regular beard hair, and should maintain themselves for life with standard care.
It’s also important to note that the transplanted follicles are taken from areas of the scalp that are genetically resistant to hair loss. For the best results, we also recommend pairing any transplant with other treatments, such as PRP or Exosome therapy.
A local anaesthetic is used during the beard transplant procedure in order to numb the donor and recipient area, so you shouldn’t be in any pain during the surgery itself. Patients due report mild tenderness afterwards, but this normally resolves itself within a few days.
Any scarring from a beard transplant is extremely minimal. Any marks created during the follicle extraction process (on the donor area) will be incredibly small and difficult to see. For the recipient area, the graft sites heal very quickly and are very rarely noticeable.
Yes, beard transplants are an excellent option for patchy beards, creating a much more even and balanced appearance while increasing the overall density of your existing beard.
This will vary slightly depending on the amount of graphs required, but beard transplants typically take between 6 – 8 hours (with a break included).
Typically, patients are asked to shave the areas of the beard that are being treated, as this allows the beard transplant specialist to place the grafts most accurately. Patients often decide to shave their entire beard rather than only shaving certain areas, but the choice is yours.
Yes, once the transplanted hairs have fully healed and have begun to grow, you’ll be able to shape, trim or groom your new beard
Yes. Despite the transplanted hair follicles being taken from the scalp, they adapt well to the beard area over time and will blend naturally with your beard.
Typically the Beard Transplant recovery period takes between 7 – 10 days. Patients often notice mild swelling, redness and the formation of small scabs. These resolve fairly quickly without medical intervention.
The majority of patients return to work within a few days, but some prefer to wait until any swelling, redness or scabbing has faded (this can take up to 10 days).
The full results of your beard transplant will develop over several months as the transplanted follicles go through their natural growth cycle.
In terms of cost, our Beard Transplant procedures start at £3000+ vat. Your custom Beard Transplant cost will be provided once our specialist has assessed your existing facial hair and devised a tailored plan that includes the estimated amount of grafts required.
We offer interest-free finance plans to suit your budget. To find out more, get in touch with our team and we’ll be happy to tell you the options available.

Beard Hair Transplant aftercare is very simple, but also crucial in order to see the best results. Typically, you will be asked to keep the area clean, avoid touching or scratching the treated areas, and to regularly use the medication and supplied sprays to support the healing process.
We also advise our patients to avoid strenuous exercise, direct sun exposure where possible and locations and activities (for example, saunas) that cause excessive sweating. Our staff will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions immediately following your Beard Transplant.
Most side effects are mild and temporary, including redness, swelling, tiny scabs, and brief shedding of transplanted hairs. Rarely, patients may experience ingrown hairs or minor folliculitis, all of which resolve with proper aftercare.
